SUMMARY:Do Blue-Green Solutions Work in Urban Environments? Scientific Results from 2 Years of Monitoring of 3 MULTISOURCE Pilot Projects
DESCRIPTION:Unlock the future of water-smart cities with Nature Based Solutions!  Sign up for this inspiring webinar where we share new scientific insights from three nature-based solution (NBS) pilots of the MULTISOURCE project\, with a special focus on pathogens and pharmaceuticals. We’ll explore how cities can integrate green infrastructure\, store and treat wastewater at the building and neighborhood levels. Together with Embuild Flanders\, we’ll examine lessons that can be applied to the Waterwijzer project.neighbourhood \nHere’s a preview of what you can discover: \n1. Rhizosph’air Aerated French Wetland: An innovative and compact technology that treats sludge and wastewater—even during extreme rainfall! The system only requires 1m² of surface area per inhabitant and has a capital cost of €200/m². This is a revolution in urban wastewater management. \n2. Phytoparking in Ypres: A decentralized wastewater treatment system that also serves as a green parking area. The system reuses 30-60% of the treated wastewater on-site for toilet flushing. Efficiency meets sustainability!\n3. Green roofs in Germany: Which green roofs perform better in promoting biodiversity\, retaining rainwater\, and cooling buildings. \nThis webinar also showcases the additional benefits and versatility of these solutions\, paving the way for wider applications and replication in urban areas. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn\, engage\, and be part of the change!

SUMMARY:Water Market Europe - Advancing nature-based solutions for water-smart cities
DESCRIPTION:The European Green Deal sets a bold ambition: achieving climate neutrality and establishing a circular economy by 2050. Central to this vision is the integration of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in urban water management\, which promotes sustainability while addressing pressing environmental challenges. The MULTISOURCE project is at the forefront of this movement\, developing innovative models for urban wastewater treatment through NbS. These efforts are in alignment with key EU policies\, such as the Water Framework Directive\, the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive\, and the Zero Pollution Action Plan\, all of which emphasize sustainable water management. \nWater Market Europe (WME) 2025\, co-organized by Water Europe and supported by the EU-funded MULTISOURCE project\, will serve as a platform for contributing to address these challenges. WME 2025 is designed to foster collaboration and innovation by directly addressing the technological needs identified in the MULTISOURCE project. Through dynamic matchmaking opportunities and expert-led sessions\, WME will bring together innovators\, decision-makers\, investors\, and solution providers to accelerate the implementation of sustainable water solutions across Europe.

SUMMARY:Splashdown Webinar #9 'Nature-Based Solutions for Water Quality: Conservation\, Biodiversity\, and Innovation'
DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, Robert will present the perspective of a conservation NGO\, that often uses nature-based solutions to achieve water quality and quantity goals\, but also is interested in biodiversity first and foremost. The experience of conservation NGOs with stormwater green infrastructure will be discussed and contrasted with NBS for wastewater treatment. Also discussed will be the use of treatment wetlands for agriculture runoff\, and related nutrient trading markets. Finally\, we will end by highlighting the potential for “smart”\, high-tech NBS\, which seems like an oxymoron but has potential.

SUMMARY:Webinar 'From Agreement to Action: Scaling-up finance for biodiversity: the key role of cities and regions'
DESCRIPTION:Join us at ICLEI’s Cities Biodiversity Center webinar series\, to explore the key role of subnational and local governments in the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). \nConsidering the role of subnational and local governments was a “game changer” at COP15 in Montreal in December 2022\, it is important to keep momentum while focusing on strategies for the implementation of the GBF. \nICLEI Cities Biodiversity Centre (CBC)\, will host and lead a series of five webinars\, with the support from partners: Committee of the Regions\, International Union for Conservation of Nature\, Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity\, United Nations Environment Programme\, and Regions4\, with the purpose of opening a space for knowledge building and sharing on biodiversity issues towards COP16 in Turkey in 2024\, and to ultimately to reach the 2030 targets and 2050 goals.
