MULTISOURCE Showcased at LIFE BIODAPH2O Event in Girona, Catalonia
On January 18,2024, the MULTISOURCE project was presented alongside other innovative Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) projects at the LIFE BIODAPH2O event in Girona, Catalonia. The event featured a roundtable discussion with experts in the water sector and technology transfer, focusing on the leap from research to implementation of NbS.
hich began with a technical session, highlighted the importance of real-scale implementation projects like LIFE BIODAPH2O for improving WWTP effluent quality. Victoria SalvadĂł from the University of Girona detailed the project, which also includes a demonstrator in Antissa, Greece, aimed at water reclamation for irrigation.
Attendees also explored other NbS projects, including LIFE ReNaturWAT, UPWATER, and GiroNat, all of which contribute to ecosystem improvement and climate resilience. The panel discussion featured experts in technology transfer, research, and sanitation, moderated by Aina Amengual of the Catalan Water Partnership.
The day concluded with an inspiring visit to the Quart Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), where the University of Girona and Sorigué demonstrated the operation of the BIODAPH reactor. The BIODAPH technology utilizes water fleas, microalgae, and microbial biofilms to remove various pollutants without producing sludge or using chemicals.
